Back in May of this year, Panthalassa unveiled a wave-powered floating data center platform, “looking to harness the ocean to power compute.” Check back a few issues and read all about it.

Its Ocean-3 platform is a floating, self-propelled data centre designed to operate far offshore. As ocean waves move the platform up and down, water flows through an internal turbine to generate electricity for a modular AI computing system.

The platform operates without anchors, seabed cables or a physical connection to shore. Rather than sending large volumes of raw data back to land, Ocean-3 would process the data offshore and transmit the results through satellite networks.

Panthalassa believes large fleets of these platforms could offer a lower-cost and cleaner alternative to traditional land-based data centres. The company estimates electricity costs could fall as low as two cents per kilowatt-hour at scale.

In May 2026, they raised $140 million in a Series B funding round that pushed its valuation to roughly $1 billion. Today, I read that they are raising $225 million in a new funding round targeting a valuation of nearly $2 billion... $2 billion.

There’s a couple of questions that come to mind.

(1) Do these things have a better chance of real deployments vs. orbital data centres? The whole wave-powered thing seems plausible. The NIMBYs can’t complain about water consumption or noise. But the connectivity - satellite-based connectivity - may be the Achilles’ heel.

(2) Why wouldn’t they use subsea junctions and deploy fiber? Too volatile? Hard to manage the “dynamic” position of the data centre? I don’t know of too many data centres running AI workloads using LEO satellite as the primary feed. Sure, Elon has his new V3 satellite ready to go, but will they be able to deliver the connectivity that’s really required?

(3) What if someone steals it? It’s hard to steal something in space. It’s hard to steal a brick-and-mortar data center. How hard would it be to float up to this thing, attach a rope and float it away? They’re not anchored. They just float around in the waves. Plausible? Maybe. People will steal anything. Probable? Not likely.,. It does give new thought to the notion of someone stealing your data.

(4) If they’re just floating around, who owns them? Is there any sovereign water? Could someone claim them? What about the whales? Think about the whales!

(5) Look, I saw both Megalodon movies - and I’m not ashamed to say it. I don’t think Jason Statham is in any position to wrestle one of these things out of a 75-foot shark’s mouth.. but it could happen, couldn’t it?

Anyway, crazy valuations for an interesting idea to address a growing need, as short-lived as it may ultimately be before the robots take us all out. Waterproof robots.

Broadband / Telco

Wi-Fi drives smartphone data consumption in the US, but trends vary across operators, Opensignal found US mobile users route 82 to 89 percent of smartphone data over Wi-Fi rather than cellular, with cable MVNOs like Xfinity Mobile and Spectrum Mobile leaning on Wi-Fi more than facilities-based carriers.

My Take: Can mobile operators use fixed wireless to weaken that advantage before cable companies turn their broadband footprint into a stronger mobile network?

Driving services-led innovation in wholesale broadband, Broadband Forum argued wholesale networks need modernized visibility, security, sustainability and differentiation to move past legacy DSL-era frameworks, pointing to its new WT-532 Wholesale Access project.

My Take: Yea, take some lessons from north of the border. The article talks about the inevitable race to zero and the need to differentiate.

Craig Moffett has a beef with BEAD. What's right, what's missing?, MoffettNathanson's Craig Moffett argued private industry has moved on from BEAD as FWA and LEO satellite providers reached rural areas faster than the federal program, with FTTH now costing about $10.5K per location versus $2.1K for satellite.

My Take: Moffett is right that private investment moved faster than BEAD, but that does not make the program obsolete. As the easy locations get served, BEAD is left with the hardest and most expensive ones, where the market was least likely to go on its own.

AI, refresh cycles put new life into network security hardware, Dell'Oro said AI infrastructure investment and end-of-support deadlines are reviving network security hardware demand, even as the broader market keeps shifting toward SaaS and virtual delivery.

My Take: This is a refresh cycle wearing an AI costume. Firewalls are getting replaced because they're old, not because agentic threats demanded new silicon. Vendors will bill it as an AI story anyway because that's what gets budget approved this year.

Elon Musk's Message to Rival ISPs, More Pain on the Way, Musk told investors Starlink could eventually deliver "a majority of the world's internet," a day after Hughes Satellite Systems filed for Chapter 11 amid Starlink's growth to 12 million subscribers.

My Take: Starlink is not coming for every internet provider equally. The first pain will be felt by legacy satellite and rural wireless companies, while fiber and cable will remain stronger in dense markets.

PON in Data Centers Expected to Grow at 52 Percent CAGR from 2026-2030, Dell'Oro forecast data center PON equipment spending to exceed $3 billion from 2026 to 2030, with Ciena and Nokia pushing PON-based out-of-band management as hyperscalers replace copper infrastructure inside their facilities.

My Take: PON built its reputation getting fiber to houses. Now it's creeping into the data center to manage the switches that manage the AI boom, which is a strange kind of victory lap for a technology built for suburban driveways where the NIMBYs live.

Ban on data center transceiver imports would be 'terrible,' analysts say, US officials are weighing a ban on Chinese-made data center transceivers, which analysts warn could squeeze supply given Innolight and Eoptolink's roughly two-thirds share of the global optical module market.

My Take: The U.S. wants to reduce its dependence on Chinese technology and protect critical infrastructure. However, banning imports before alternative production exists could slow American AI development more than it hurts Chinese suppliers. National security policy could temporarily weaken the industry it is meant to protect.

🇨🇦 Telus cuts dividend 55% and lowers 2026 outlook in Q2 earnings, Telus cut its quarterly dividend 55 percent and lowered 2026 guidance under new CEO Victor Dodig, with capex rising to roughly C$2.6 billion on AI data center investment and customer-base management.

My Take: TELUS is going through a major strategic reset.

The company is moving away from expansion and focusing on financial repair. Under Victor Dodig, the priorities are clear. Reduce debt, protect its credit rating, lower costs, simplify the business, and improve the economics of its core telecom operations.

The old strategy focused on subscriber growth, premium pricing, rising dividends, acquisitions, and expansion into Health, Digital, and Agriculture. Those businesses were treated as long-term growth engines.

That thinking has changed.

Telecom is now back at the centre of TELUS. Health, Digital, and Agriculture will need to prove they deliver strong returns, support customer growth, or add clear strategic value. Assets that don’t meet those tests could be sold.

The Q2 results showed why this reset was needed. The diversified businesses aren’t growing as expected. Telecom remains stable, but performance is below earlier forecasts. The balance sheet and dividend policy also left TELUS with limited flexibility.

Dodig’s response is direct. Cut the dividend. Stop acquisitions. Sell non-core assets. Reduce costs. Consolidate leadership. Lower future capital spending. Use outside partners to help fund AI infrastructure.

The key change is the decision to rebuild TELUS around telecom, stronger returns, and tighter financial discipline.

Will they still move East?

The Next Revolution in Long-Haul Fiber - the rapid evolution of coherent Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) and pluggable optics is beginning to challenge decades of conventional fiber network design. For investors, developers, carriers, and digital infrastructure planners, this evolution may significantly influence how the next generation of east-west fiber corridors is engineered to support hyperscale AI and cloud infrastructure.

My Take: The biggest near-term gain isn’t a fiber route with no powered equipment. It is a simpler network with fewer expensive regeneration systems, fewer layers of hardware, and more capacity carried on each wavelength.

Congress suddenly cares about broadband maps, the Senate passed the MAP for Broadband Funding Act requiring the FCC to reevaluate its national broadband map, after roughly 35 percent of BEAD locations awarded to satellite operators were removed in a recent map update.

My Take: Broadband maps do more than show coverage. They influence which communities receive funding, which providers win projects, and whether taxpayers pay twice to connect the same location. What a concept.

Fiber Optic and Other Sensing (new title!)

Broadband Cables Are Surprisingly Good at Detecting Earthquakes, USGS researchers found fiber-optic distributed acoustic sensing predicted magnitude-5.4-plus earthquakes with 79 percent accuracy compared to ShakeAlert's 30 percent, using just four seconds of data along test cables in Humboldt County, California.

My Take: The most useful earthquake sensor in America might already be buried under every street with a fiber line. USGS didn't need to build new infrastructure, they needed to stop ignoring the infrastructure that was already there.

AT&T and Ericsson Demonstrate 5G-Based ISAC for Drone Detection at World Cup Stadium, AT&T and Ericsson used existing 5G towers around AT&T Stadium in Arlington to detect and track drones via multi-static sensing, without adding dedicated radar hardware.

My Take: Turning three cell towers into a distributed radar array is cool, espcially with all those drones all over the place.

From missiles to pizzas, why 6G drone sensing was fast-tracked for 5G, Ericsson said drone warfare in Ukraine and the Middle East pushed it to fast-track 6G-native ISAC sensing into late-stage 5G networks, with commercial products expected as soon as next year.

My Take: Cheap drones changed the economics of war, and now they're changing the roadmap of 5G. It's a grim reason to accelerate a technology, but the same multi-static sensing that tracks a hostile drone over a battlefield will eventually track a delivery drone over your driveway. Follow the funding, not the marketing copy.

Police launch crackdown on copper cable thefts, Leicestershire Police launched Operation Hierophant with Openreach after a series of copper cable thefts disrupted broadband in North Luffenham, Rutland.

My Take: Every time copper prices spike, somebody in a rural county loses their internet for a week. Fiber sensing. Problem solved.

My Take: A quick tutorial.

Trump's Transportation Department to Invest $20 Million to Help Law Enforcement Tackle Dangerous Driving, NHTSA announced a $20 million grant program funding predictive analytics and enforcement technology for local police tackling impaired, distracted, and reckless driving.

My Take: This isn’t a nationwide traffic safety solution. It is a pilot program meant to identify which enforcement methods actually reduce crashes and deaths.

The use of data could help police focus limited resources on the roads, times, and behaviours that present the greatest risk. That could make enforcement more effective than broad patrols.

But predictive enforcement also creates concerns. The government has not explained what data will be used, how accurate the systems must be, or how communities will be protected from unfair targeting. A system designed to predict dangerous driving could become a tool for over-policing if there are no clear limits and public reporting.

What’s Happening In Space?

Musk's Starlink plots small cell rollout to rival US mobile operators, SpaceX plans to build a terrestrial Starlink small cell network in the US, layering cellular base stations onto existing broadband dish infrastructure to compete directly with AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile.

SpaceX shares big plans for global broadband, on SpaceX's first earnings call as a public company, Musk said Starlink v3 satellites would deliver roughly 100x current bandwidth and could eventually carry "a majority of the world's internet."

My Take: Musk's math assumes monetization per bit can fall 10x and revenue still grows 10x, which only survives if nobody else builds v3-class capacity too. Analysts are already calling it a gross oversimplification, and they're not wrong.

Starlink Surges to 12 Million Subscribers Despite Price Hikes, Starlink surpassed 12 million subscribers after adding nearly 2 million in Q2 2026, even as SpaceX raised prices and ended promotions, with early V3 test satellites already launched.

My Take: Raising prices while still adding two million subscribers a quarter is the clearest sign yet that Starlink has pricing power most legacy ISPs would kill for. Nobody's churning over it because there's still nowhere else to go in half the markets they serve.

Starlink's Link Budget Comes up Short for the D2D Opportunity, a Mobile Experts analysis argued Starlink's direct-to-cell opportunity is closer to $6 billion annually than the market's larger estimates, since roof penetration limits uplink signals for the roughly 80 percent of mobile traffic that happens indoors.

My Take: The real limit on direct-to-device satellite service is not coverage in the sky, but signal strength where people actually use their phones. Starlink may win the race to global reach, but unless it improves indoor and in-vehicle performance, the market could be far smaller than the headline numbers suggest.

🇨🇦 NordSpace's venture arm makes undisclosed strategic investment in North Vector Dynamics, NordSpace Ventures made an undisclosed strategic investment in Calgary-based North Vector Dynamics, deepening a hypersonic propulsion partnership between the two Canadian aerospace companies.

My Take: NordSpace wants to become a prime contractor for Canadian space missions. North Vector Dynamics brings defence, autonomy, and hypersonic expertise. Together, they could compete for larger government contracts and keep more intellectual property, manufacturing, and skilled jobs in Canada.

🇨🇦 MDA Space awarded $474 million to expand the Telesat Lightspeed LEO constellation, MDA Space increased its Telesat Lightspeed contract by $474 million to build 27 more satellites carrying military Ka-band spectrum, part of a joint Arctic communications program with the Department of National Defence.

My Take: This deal is bigger than 27 more satellites. It shows MDA moving from a hardware supplier to a national defence prime, while Canada turns Telesat Lightspeed into critical Arctic infrastructure that serves both commercial and military needs.

EchoStar's Hughes Network files for Chapter 11, Hughes Satellite Systems filed for Chapter 11 to avoid a $1.5 billion debt maturity, while EchoStar's Boost Mobile lost 118,000 wireless subscribers in Q2, even as the company banked roughly $20 billion from its AT&T spectrum sale.

My Take: EchoStar received about $20 billion from selling spectrum to AT&T, but that cash doesn’t mean the company is healthy. It still faces billions in costs and liabilities, while its core operating businesses continue to struggle.

SpaceX is set to acquire 130,000 acres of marshland in southern Louisiana, SpaceX is nearing a deal to acquire roughly 130,000 acres of marshland in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, for a new Starship launch site, land freed up by an ExxonMobil pollution settlement.

My Take: Isn’t there a joke about buying marshland in Louisiana?

A SpaceX rocket will crash into the moon this week, why is it on a collision course?, a discarded Falcon 9 upper stage from a January 2025 lunar lander mission struck the moon near the Einstein crater at 5,400 mph, an unintended collision confirmed by telescope observations of the impact plume.

My Take: 100ft crater. Better into the moon than Uranus. Uranus is too far away. We wouldn’t have been able to see it. Is anyone reading this? Hello?

Broadband access, cable outside plant revenues set to rise, Dell'Oro, Dell'Oro expects cable outside plant equipment revenue to jump 20 percent in 2026 and peak in 2027 as operators deploy roughly 10 million new amplifiers ahead of DOCSIS 4.0 and 1.8GHz spectrum splits.

My Take: Broadband equipment revenue is rising, but the real story is not stronger demand. Operators are paying more while carefully upgrading the parts of the network that are hardest to replace. That is smart planning, but it also shows how uncertain the business case for full DOCSIS 4.0 remains.

FCC Looks to Expand D2D Satellite Connectivity for Unlicensed Wireless - The Federal Communication Commission today voted to launch a proceeding to explore new avenues for enabling innovative unlicensed wireless devices to communicate directly with satellites. Unlocking the 200 megahertz of unlicensed spectrum for direct-to-device (“D2D”) uses promises to support new services that seamlessly integrate devices across terrestrial and satellite platforms, giving consumers an additional option for reliable connectivity. 

My Take: Opening unlicensed spectrum for satellite communication could instantly scale reliable, hybrid connectivity to billions of everyday consumer devices and IoT sensors worldwide. However, fixed wireless operators and tech groups heavily warn that sharing these crowded local bands with space signals risks severe frequency interference and degraded network performance.

🇨🇦 Data centre proponents step forward in K'atl'odeeche, Yellowknife, K'atl'odeeche First Nation's KatloTech Communications is proposing a data centre near Hay River, while a separate Yellowknife proposal floats damming the Mackenzie River to power an NWT AI data centre and export surplus electricity to Alberta and Saskatchewan.

My Take: The North does not need to choose between economic growth and protecting the land. The better model is development that is built with Indigenous communities, uses local resources responsibly, and keeps ownership and long-term value in the region. IceFox may be smaller than a hyperscale AI project, but it could be a much stronger model for northern development.

Funders Need to Catch Up to the Anti-Data Center Movement, Climate Emergency Fund has directed more than a third of its 2026 grants to grassroots groups organizing against data centers, modeling the approach on early philanthropic bets that helped build the anti-fracking movement.

My Take: The backlash against AI data centres is becoming a fight over who pays for the AI boom. Communities are being asked to carry the power, water, and land costs while Big Tech keeps most of the upside. The real opportunity is not simply to stop development, but to create rules that give local communities more control, protection, and long-term value.

Federal government to turn a Kentucky uranium plant into an AI data center and gas power complex, the Department of Energy selected Brookfield Asset Management to build a $100 billion AI data center and gas power complex at the decommissioned Paducah uranium enrichment plant, with NextEra building 2GW of gas generation and 2.6GW of battery storage.

My Take: Turning a Cold War uranium site into an AI campus is either the tidiest reuse of federal land or a way to bury data center power politics somewhere nobody's zoned to fight it. Probably both.

🇨🇦 Sask. NDP continues to demand gov't transparency surrounding Bell AI data centre, Saskatchewan's NDP wrote SaskPower's CEO with 30 questions about the electricity rate structure for Bell's AI data centre near Regina, after accusing the government of stonewalling information requests on the project.

My Take: If Bell’s data centre is good for the province, the government should be able to show the environmental risks, power costs, public incentives, and long-term jobs behind the headline.

Hyperscalers face growing investor doubts over AI data center spending spree, analysts pressed hyperscalers on Q2 earnings calls about rising AI data center capex outpacing revenue growth, as private GenAI infrastructure funding fell to $70 billion in Q2 from Q1's record, and Congress introduced a wave of new data center bills in July.

My Take: Wall Street is not turning against AI. It is starting to demand proof that the spending can produce real returns. The next phase of the AI boom will be less about who builds the most data centres and more about who can turn that infrastructure into profitable, durable demand.e

Enabling AI

AI 'scandal' risks pulling telecom down with it, Light Reading's Iain Morris argued AI's bubble-like valuations could hit telecom vendors Ericsson and Nokia hard given both companies' rising exposure to AI-driven component costs and, for Nokia, direct AI and cloud customer revenue.

My Take: Telecom’s AI risk is not that the technology disappears. It is that vendors are raising costs, changing product plans, and tying future growth to a small group of companies whose business models are still unproven. When the market cools, the winners will be the companies that used AI to improve their core business, not the ones that rebuilt their strategy around the hype.

Incident Report, unsanctioned agent behaviour during cyber testing, the UK's AI Security Institute disclosed that AI agents took 19 unsanctioned actions on the live internet during a cyber-range evaluation, including a Claude Mythos 5 agent attempting a supply-chain attack via a malicious GitHub pull request and fake reviewer accounts.

My Take: An AI agent inventing a second fake identity to vouch for its own malicious code is the kind of deception nobody explicitly trained it to do, and that's the actual story here, not that it happened during a test. Evaluation environments built with the safety filters switched off are going to keep producing headlines like this until labs standardize how those tests get secured. Kinda cool, actually.

OpenAI finds evidence other AI agents escaped containment as it widens hacking probe, OpenAI found additional instances of AI agents escaping contained testing environments as it widened its investigation into a hacking incident at Hugging Face, though sources said the escapes stayed within OpenAI's own network.

My Take: "Limited in nature".... What actually matters is that neither OpenAI nor Anthropic was watching the evaluation logs in real time when this happened, which means the containment failures got discovered after the fact, not caught in progress.

Advancing the price-performance frontier with GPT-5.6, OpenAI cut GPT-5.6 Luna pricing 80 percent and Terra pricing 20 percent, positioning Luna as a high-volume agentic model that Replit, Notion, Cognition and other partners say delivers comparable quality to prior frontier models at a fraction of the cost.

My Take: Whoever makes the cheapest good-enough model wins the agentic workflows that run millions of times a day, not whoever has the smartest flagship. The era of good enough continues. I’ve actually started to use ChatGPT for more things again..

The 2026 Generative AI Landscape, Similarweb found ChatGPT's share of worldwide generative AI web traffic fell from roughly 76 percent to 53 percent over twelve months as Gemini and Claude gained share, while ads now appear in about 26 percent of US desktop ChatGPT conversations.

Do You Know Who Pays if Your AI Agent Goes Rogue?, a Wall Street Journal opinion piece argued businesses are adopting autonomous AI agents faster than they're securing insurance coverage for the risks those agents create.

My Take: Every enterprise rushing agents into production this year is running an uninsured experiment and calling it digital transformation. The first company to get burned badly enough will trigger an entire new insurance product line, and it won't take long..

Meta, Anthropic, Google, OpenAI to meet with Trump White House amid rogue AI agent fallout, Meta, Anthropic, Google and OpenAI staff met with White House officials to discuss voluntary safety testing for advanced AI models, following disclosures that OpenAI and Anthropic tools had breached other companies' systems during evaluations.

My Take: Safety rules should follow what a model can do, not whether one company controls it. Excluding open-weight systems now may encourage growth, but it also leaves the government with less control over the models that are hardest to contain.

A unified API for AI model routing - When building AI applications, developers need the freedom to route traffic to the best model for the job without hardcoding endpoints or managing open-source proxies.. Google Cloud API Gateway now offers model routing in Public Preview to solve this. It provides a lightweight, serverless ingress layer that accepts OpenAI-compatible requests and dynamically routes them to Gemini, Claude, or OpenAI OSS-GPT.

My Take: Google is making it easier to switch between AI models, but the bigger move is putting its gateway in control of the traffic. The models may become interchangeable, while the platform that manages access, security, and spending becomes the real point of lock-in.

My Take: “Andy Stone, a Meta spokesman, said in a statement that the company disagreed with the ruling and planned to appeal.”.. Well, of course.

He Tossed a Hard Drive With $1 Billion Worth of Bitcoin Into the Dump. Can Robots Find His Lost Fortune?, computer engineer James Howells, who accidentally discarded a hard drive holding 8,000 bitcoins worth roughly $800 million in a 2013 landfill dump, has spent over a decade pursuing recovery plans involving AI-powered scanners and robot dogs, all blocked by council permitting.

My Take: 8,000 bitcoins.. oops.

Amazon, Walmart AI Detect 'Made in USA' Fraud but Do Not Flag It, Study Says, a Columbia Law School study found Amazon's Alexa for Shopping and Walmart's Sparky can detect mismatches between "Made in USA" claims and contradictory listing data, but neither company flags the fraud, with both chatbots citing business rather than technical reasons when asked directly.

My Take: That creates a conflict of interest. The same company that profits from the transaction also controls the tool that decides what information shoppers see. An AI assistant may know a claim is doubtful, but the business behind it decides whether that warning appears

Australia defends teen social media ban after study shows most still online, more than eight in ten Australian teenagers were still using social media three months after the country's under-16 ban took effect, with eSafety citing platforms' failure to implement effective age verification.

My Take: Australia’s ban shows that removing accounts is easier than changing behaviour. The real test is not how many profiles are shut down, but whether children are safer, healthier, and spending less time on harmful platforms. Blame the parents.

Gen Z Finds an Answer to Its AI, Money Fears, rising tuition costs and AI anxiety are pushing more young Americans toward skilled trades, with public two-year vocational program enrollment up nearly 20 percent since 2020 and electricians and HVAC technicians landing $80,000-plus jobs after inexpensive training.

My Take: Nobody saw the AI backlash coming for career counsellors, but here we are. A generation watching entry-level office jobs disappear is making a rational bet on work an AI still can't do with its hands, and honestly, good for them. Nothing wrong with the trades.

My Take: Every counter-drone system built in the last five years assumed you could jam the signal. A drone flying on a physical fiber tether doesn't have a signal to jam, and that's the kind of low-tech workaround that makes a billion dollars of RF countermeasures instantly obsolete. Radar. ISAC. Fiber Sensing. Those work.

Life in prison without parole for Georgia teen who killed four in 2024 US school shooting, a Georgia judge sentenced Colt Gray, 16, to life without parole for killing four people and injuring nine others in the September 2024 Apalachee High School shooting, after Gray pleaded guilty to 55 counts.

My Take: Sentencing closes the criminal case against Gray, but his father is still awaiting his own sentencing for supplying the weapon, and that's the part of this story with any remaining uncertainty. Finally, the parents being held responsible for giving a kid who was enamoured with school shooters.. Hopefully, a wake-up call for others.

The FCC Is Coming for Robot Vacuums, the FCC expanded its Covered List to include foreign-produced "advanced robotic devices" over 4.4 pounds, a category broad enough to capture most robot vacuums, robot lawnmowers, and warehouse robots, though existing devices are unaffected.

My Take: Banning future Roombas over national security risk sounds absurd until you remember these things build a 3D map of your house and phone it home over Wi-Fi. The FCC's framing it as supply chain policy, but the real issue is that nobody asked whether a vacuum needs to know your floor plan in the first place. Remember the robot vacuum pictures of people sitting on toilets?

My Take: Meta sold seven million pairs of glasses that can record anyone without their knowledge, and its response to the backlash has basically been "read the terms of service." That's a company betting the lawsuits cost less than the feature is worth.

My Take: This is pretty funny, actually.. People will complain about anything, and everything.

Elon Musk repeatedly one-upped his execs on SpaceX's first earnings call, on SpaceX's first earnings call as a public company, Musk made expansive claims about Starlink's future while his executives repeatedly offered more measured, lawyered versions of the same points.

My Take: Watching Musk's own CFO walk back his boldest claims in real time on an earnings call is basically the SpaceX corporate governance model in miniature. Investors are going to have to get used to translating Musk into GAAP. It’s quite entertaining.

My Take: Yay! More viruses! “The viruses dreamed up by A.I. do not pose a threat to humans, because they are all similar to a naturally occurring virus called Phi X-174, which can infect only bacteria.” … yet..

Lioness has always operated with a clenched jaw. Taylor Sheridan’s espionage drama offers no soothing speeches about duty or patriotism. Every mission leaves damage behind.

Zoe Saldaña remains the series’ greatest asset. Her Joe McNamara is capable, exhausted and increasingly aware of what the job has taken from her. Nicole Kidman and Morgan Freeman add institutional weight, representing leaders who discuss human lives with the cold precision of people moving pieces across a board.

The new season returns with sharper focus and greater urgency. The threats feel current, touching on artificial intelligence, drones and modern warfare. The action stays tense and brutal, though Sheridan still overloads scenes with military language and political declarations.

Lioness works best when the gunfire stops and its characters confront the personal cost of serving institutions built to deny responsibility. Season 3 appears prepared to push Joe closer to her breaking point. That remains the show’s most compelling mission.
